What is SFD?
SFD (Schutz Fahrzeug Diagnose), or Vehicle Diagnostic Protection, is an advanced security layer introduced by the Volkswagen Group (VAG) to safeguard vehicles from unauthorised access and modifications.
This system records who accesses or modifies a vehicle's diagnostic data, helping protect owners from fraud. SFD restricts critical functions such as adaptations, coding, and parameter settings.

When Do You Need SFD Unlocking?
Your Autel tool will come up with a message stating you need to unlock the SFD and you will not be able to perform the function.

Applicable Models: Vehicles from 2020 onwards.
Supported Functions: Clear codes, action tests, matching, basic settings, coding, guided functions. To perform special functions, and other operations, you need to unlock the system first. Otherwise, the ECU will deny access. This applies to tasks like maintenance resets, brake pad replacements, airbag module coding, etc.
